Planet: Coordinate investigates what to do for a world in crisis.

We tell stories from the frontlines of communities who dare stand up against cruelty, injustice and indifference—and build a better world.

My name is Rachel Donald, I’m a journalist, and four years ago I launched Planet: Critical to investigate why the world was in crisis. Through the podcast and newsletter, which now reaches subscribers in 180 countries, I uncovered the nexus of political, economic and energetic power driving ecological destruction and human injustice.

I also discovered that people are frightened and desperate to know what to do. I didn’t have answers for them. But I knew of enough stories from around the world that there are people who do. These are the voices of the rebels and the fighters, the strategists and the dreamers. The voices of the restless and the daring, of the quiet and determined. The voices of those who are busy planting the roots of the future, who are coordinating their communities to get through whatever comes next. These are the voices with stories which need to be heard.

Planet: Coordinate will be a series of films about these people and their stories. It is a call to action and an upraising. It is a library of things to do and ways to think. It’s a pattern of human wonder and courage. It’s a network of our beautiful humanity.

Beginning as a series of written stories about these communities, our first film will be published in the spring of 2025. For safety reasons, we won’t announce where we’re going beforehand, but will be starting in Latin America. We’re looking for projects to film all around the world, so please, if you have an idea, fill out this form.

Like Planet: Critical, Planet: Coordinate is “commons journalism” - there will be no ads or paywalls. It is 100% community-powered (meaning, right now, it is entirely funded by the Planet: Critical community). If you would like to support the project, and have the means, please take out a paid subscription today.

I hope the community which coalesces around this project will be active, that the comments will become a place for people to share ideas and resources. I hope to see members of the Coordinate and Critical communities cross-pollinate. I hope to see hope itself. I hope to see a world that is built with all of us in mind. I hope to build it with you all.

Get coordinated,
Rachel
